The history of using bentonite to produce desiccant begins in America in 40s. At that time, military found that montmorillonite desiccant not only have super adsorption without corrosion after contacting with metal parts, but also very environmental. So from 50s and 60s American began to vigorously promote the use of bentonite desiccant. But the special bentonite used to produce high performance desiccant is scare worldwide. The bentonite that can be used in desiccant is a special high charge Ca-base bentonite, with high CEC, and its adsorption capacity is achieved by the double functions of interlayer Ca+1 hydrating and adsorbing the H2O molecules lead by the large surface area of granules. Ca+2 ion hydrating plays a major part. Following is the comparison of four kinds of desiccants:
Activated clay desiccant:

Gypsum desiccant:
