IMPROVING THE TRANSMISSION OF MICROWAVE TOWERS & TELECOMMUNICATION TOWERS.
Equipment Scenarios for Golf Courses, Microwave Towers, and Commercial Buildings
Equipment Considerations
The TMIA ASC 7000 is the least expensive option and includes a microphone and four built in speakers. It also includes a battery, which allows it to be placed for up to a week with no external power, but covers the smallest area - 50-foot radius of the box (100-foot diameter). The 7000 is designed to be portable (but is often used in fixed locations) and can support up to 4 external speakers placed up to 100 feet away, doubling it’s effective coverage area.
The TMIA ASC 4000 is a high-powered output system (100 watts per channel) that is AC powered. The 4000 does not come with any microphones or speakers, they must be ordered separately, and can accept up to three microphones and 8 speakers. The 4000 has an effective coverage area of 250 foot radius of the box (500 foot diameter).
The TMIA ASC 5000 has the same output as the 4000 (100 watts per channel) but is able to be powered by a solar cell. Due to the battery that is provided for this, the 5000 can effectively support up 10 speakers giving it a slightly larger effective area. Microphones and speakers must be ordered separately for the 5000.
The TMIA ASC 7000 is provided with a plastic NEMA 4X weather-proof container.
The TMIA ASC 4000 and TMIA ASC 5000 are provided with a stainless steel weatherproof container.
These systems are designed to detect vocal birds (Starlings, Blackbirds, Crows, Gulls, etc.) for non-vocal birds, like Pigeons, we would suggest the TMIA ASC 6000. It has the same power output as the 4000, but is designed to work with motion detectors like Doppler radar, to sense for non-vocal species.
Multiple systems are used to cover larger areas.
The systems are designed with timers so that they would only be active during roosting times (normally 45 minutes before dark to 15 minutes after dark). This helps to minimize impact on the surrounding environment and allows their use in highly populated areas.
Omni Directional versus Parabolic microphones
Omni directional mics will pick up sounds from 360 degrees but only have an effective range of about 25 feet . Parabolic mics only pick up sounds from a narrow "view" of about 40 degrees but have a much longer effective range. Omni-directional mics. are much less expensive than Parabolic mics.
Scenarios
Golf Courses – Normally bothered by Ducks or Geese around ponds. These species react very well to sound and could be easily moved by one TMIA ASC 5000 unit with solar cell, 2-3 Parabolic microphones and 8-10 speakers set around the perimeter of the water. The parabolic microphones would be set up to target around the water and each speaker could be placed from 1 to 250 feet away from the TMIA ASC 5000 unit in any direction. The TMIA ASC 5000 would then sense the presence of the birds through the microphones and trigger the systems to generate up to 120 db of sound through each speaker to drive the birds away.
Microwave Towers; Repeater and Broadcast Antennas.
These structures are normally infested in one of two ways; 1) Larger birds (Crows, Hawks, etc.) that set upon the platform areas of microwave towers, and 2) Smaller birds that roost along "cat-walks"/platforms and/or superstructure railings mid-way to two-thirds way up the tower.
Equipment required would be determined by the size and type of the tower and the size and type of infestation. Generally though, either an TMIA ASC 7000 with 2-4 external speakers or an TMIA ASC 4000 with 6-8 speakers and 2-3 omni-directional microphones will deliver the desired results.
Commercial buildings – can be infested with any type of bird in varying amounts, so determining an "average" installation scenario would be impossible. Generally though, the infestation occurs around roofs, HVAC heat exchangers and fresh air intake vents. This means that the affected area(s) could be relatively small and less costly to cure. Normally the system box will set outside, usually on the roof.
