Amplification : Signals from satellites which are 36,000km away from the ground have low power/capacity. So they sound be amplified.
Removal of Noise : Removal of noise of signals from satellites.
Conversion of Frequency : Frequency is to converted from 12 GHz band to 950 MHz-2150 MHz for receiver (set-up box).
Thus LNB is an indispensable/essential part of satellite system.
